Just a small update

Pix will be posted in the next blog, as I have now found a way to do it, and now must just upload. Get ready, there will be quite a few.
I thought I'd update a bit on the last couple of days, because they have been quite eventful.
So yesterday after classes we went to the Midsummer Festival, which is a pretty famous fair that comes to Parker's Piece every year. The headline music act was this Swedish group called ABBA...just kidding they weren't the actual ones, but they could have fooled me, because they were one of the most convincing cover groups I've ever seen, plus they really were Swedish. And it was a SHOW, complete with costumed men (tiny scarves and open-chested shirts) and women (white feathered leotards with skirts), crazy lighting, and the audience was packed. I was surprised with how many people were there and the age range was all over, whereas in the US if an ABBA cover group played a concert, the audience would be made up of mostly middle-aged women. Also, everyone was INTO it. Europeans must really love ABBA.
The festival ended sometime after 10:30, and three of us were heading back to the dorms when we heard loud salsa music emanating from a window in the town, so we went to check it out and found a salsa ballroom club! We walked in and pretty much immediately a guy asked me to dance. Everyone there was a really good dancer as well, and all the men I danced with were so good at leading, before long I felt pretty comfortable, although I'd barely ever salsa'ed before. When I get back to the states, I definitely want to go ballroom dancing again.
Then today we went to the Botanical Gardens, which, for a name like botanical, sure weren't very flowery. I DID get to see a tree grown from one of the apples of the tree under which Isaac Newton discovered the law of gravity, or so they say. Pics to come shortly. The next week should be pretty eventful. Sunday is Evensong, which is a really pretty church service that has a boy's choir. Monday we see Merchant of Venice in the gardens of Robinson College, Tuesday I'm going to the Grantchester Tea Room, Wednesday is HARRY POTTER, Thursday we're going punting down the river, and Friday we're off to Edinburgh!!

So, a couple more things I've learned this week:
1. The one time you forget to bring your umbrella, without a doubt, it WILL rain.
2. Salsa dancing is not only ridiculously fun, but also an intense workout.
3. The weather in England is basically never humid, and my hair has never looked better
4. Peanut butter and jelly is the devil.
5. If you are a man over 40, even if you are in a flamboyant Swedish cover group, you should still not wear a tiny sparkly silver speedo.
6.Naps are my saviour.
Alright, dinner's in 20 minutes so I must go.
